Buffalo Horn, in the system of Tradtional Chinese Medicine, is considered to have cooling properties, like the rhinoceros horn which it has come to replace. Use of it in Gua Sha furthers the goals of removing of excess heat and toxins. Buffalo horn is comprised of a variety of chemicals and substances, including keratin, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, and the amino acids cystine, leucine and arginine. Its functions are to clear away heat, remove heat from the blood, and eliminate toxins. Buffalo horn is used to treat conditions such as fever, edema and convulsions. Buffalo horn can also be applied to the skin to treat skin eruptions caused by feverishness. | |
The Buffalo Horn Gua Sha Stick , a specialized Gua Sha tool, has mounted at one end a natural section of horn and at the other, a "hand" shaped Gua Sha Board. The natural horn section tool can be used to stimulate acupuncture points as acupressure, or for a steady pounding massage. The long handle helps you to reach everywhere on your body, whether for Gua Sha scraping treatment with the Gua Sha Board tool, acupressure treatment, facial massage, body massage, or other functions. (Note: some sticks offer a roller instead of a section of horn, subject to availability.) |
